The above is the list of 2021 public holidays declared in Serbia which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Serbia holiday calendar for 2021 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.
Serbia has 13 public holidays in a year. The government regulates the public holidays under the Ministry of Labor. All of the public holidays cannot be moved canceled as it is not within the powers of the government. When a public holiday occurs on a Sunday, the next working day will be a day off. The government defines some of these days as working holidays. This makes these holidays state public holidays and not bank holidays.
The country has Muslims, Christians and Jews religions. The public holidays are influenced by these three religions even though a significant number of them are Christians. During these holidays all the residents are free from work but only the particular religion celebrating the holiday gets to have festivities during the public holiday. Employers are required by the law to compensate the employees for the public holidays. Those who cannot take time off during the holidays due to the nature of their jobs are compensated on that day no less than what they earned on a work day. They also get an extra paid day off in the next working day.
Business is as usual during most of these public holidays. Traffic reduces as the holiday’s draws near. The celebrations are different from one religion to another as each group employs their ways of commemorating their saints. For most of the public holidays, foreigners are allowed to participate in the festivities. Some of these holidays can be two days long, and others take about two weeks.
