The Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C.) celebrates eight national holidays each year. The Democratic Republic of the Congo holidays includes the universal – New Year's Day, Labor Day and Christmas – in addition to national days commemorating heroes and important dates in DRC’s history. Some of the public holidays in the land are two-day and three-day festivities. The Ministry of Labor has the mandate, at the end of each year, to announce the list and the length of holiday celebrations for the following year.

Formally, the holidays in D.R.C. are stipulated by Ordinance 71-236 that was set on December 31, 1972. The ordinance has been subject to subsequent alteration over the years, following its establishment. It is notable that The Democratic Republic of the Congo has endured many regime changes, and a change of name (previously called Zaire) since this document was formally released. At the end of each year, the present-day administration releases the guides to public holidays via the Ministry of Labor, and the information is published in the Official Journal.

Employers in the country are expected to pay holiday wages and salaries on nationally recognizable holidays and also provide a day off. It is, however, noteworthy that that only applies for just one day in any multi-day celebration. Employers are often warned that one-time public days may occur sporadically in this republic and usually have maximum up to two days of notice. Therefore, the employers must acknowledge national holidays, even when given on such short notice by the labor ministry.
