2023 Public Holidays Iraq Service

Iraq has numerous public holidays that are celebrated nationwide. These holidays come in three forms; the national, public, also called regional holidays and religious.
During the national and religious holidays, government institutions and offices are closed. The employees are given a paid day off. However, regional holidays are designated as working days.
The Islamic religion is dominant in Iraq, with about 99% followers. Muslims observe several holidays annually. The dates of the holidays differ yearly because Muslims use the lunar calendar. The Iraq Muslims celebrate Assyrian New Year on April 1st. The celebrations are marked by festivities, colorful parades, and ancient cultural costumes. The most celebrated Muslim holiday is Eid-ul-Fitr. Muslims all over the country celebrate this day with lots of jubilances.
A few Christians in Iraq celebrate the Christmas holiday. The day is marked by festivities and reading of the nativity story from the Arabic Bible.
Iraq observes several national holidays every year. The most popular ones are the Army day and the Republic day. Army day is observed annually since 1921 when the Iraq Army was activated. The celebrations are marked in a colorful event where soldiers hold parades and match in the Iraq military academy in Bagdad.
Iraq celebrates the Republic Day on 14th July every year. The holiday honors the day Abdi al-Karim Qasim overthrew the Hashemite monarchy. During this day, citizens celebrate with cultural shows, songs, and dances, Military stages a show to entertain the citizens. It is the day that brings the Iraq people together and promotes peace and harmony among the natives.
