The country of Chile enjoys 21 holidays every year. Nearly half of them are Christian holidays. It follows that Chilean President, Ramón Barros Luco propagated law 2,977 on January 28, 1915, setting up for all the holidays celebrated in Chile.
The law established or preserved such holidays such as each Sunday all year-round. January 1 is to commemorate the circumcision of Jesus. June 29 to remember St Peter and St Paul. August 29 is for the remembrance of the Assumption of Mary. December 8 to commemorate the virgin conception of Mary. December 25 is Christmas Day, and the holidays of Jesus Christ's Ascension and Corpus Christi marked on Fridays and Saturdays of the Holy Week. September 18 reminisces the founding of the First Government Junta, 1810. September 19 and May 21 are commemorated for the individual victories of the Chilean Army and the Navy. The election day in Chile is also a national holiday.
However, since the original decree, different presidents have set more and taken out some holidays. Every year, the Minister of Labor has the mandate to state the official holidays of Chile for the following year, in keeping with the recognized presidential decrees.
The Chilean labor code provides to the employer to offer employees a day off for a national or nationally recognized holiday. The law in the country also instructs that should the employee not manage to take the day-offs due to the nature of their work, they need compensation with extra pay or a different paid day off.
