2022 Public Holidays Dominican Republic Service

The above is the list of 2022 public holidays declared in Dominican Republic which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Dominican Republic holiday calendar for 2022 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.

In the Dominican Republic, national holidays are provided for under the Labor Code, Law 16-92, which was confirmed in 1999. The code is an update to the article, which was initially established in 1954. Law 16-92 sets up all the 12 national holidays of the nation and gives the government of the Dominican Republic the dominion to come up with one-time national holidays, should the need for that arise. At this time, the government has given two one-off holidays in election years to allow the population a better right to use voting centers.

As stipulated by the Labor Code of the republic, employees are guaranteed a non-working day on all national holidays. However, how the employee is paid for the national holiday is based on their working contracts. Employers are not required to make available pay for non-working public holidays unless they offer it as part of their benefits packages.

Law 139-37 of the Labor Code of the Dominican Republic, created in June of 1997, stipulates that any public holiday which is not of religious or patriotic derivation nature may move to the following Monday for celebration. Just two public holidays in the Dominican Republic are covered under this category.

While they are officially unrecognized countrywide as public holidays, days like Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are observed as holidays in the Dominican Republic. A vast majority of businesses in the country close at noon one day before such days, and they remain closed through the following day for the holiday.
