2026 Public Holidays Turkey Service
The above is the list of 2026 public holidays declared in Turkey which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Turkey holiday calendar for 2026 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.
The Republic of Turkey has one of the highest numbers of holidays worldwide as the nation commemorates a total of 14.5 days of public holiday. Holidays are marked with high levels of zeal in Turkey where a wide diversity of culture exists in the expansive nation. A good number of the holidays are religious, mainly Islamic. Some of the holidays may take more than a day due to religious doctrines. Shifts in dates may occur due to changes in the religious calendar and moon sightings.
All official holidays are entrenched by Act 2429 of March 19, 1981. The Act came into effect to replace Act 2739 of May 27, 1935. Under the Labor Laws of Turkey, all employees have the right to get paid time off for official public holidays and religious observances. Additional remuneration is extended to employees required to attend work on such occasions. The law does not specify the amount of payment but largely depends on employer-employee agreements. The pay may also vary from one employer to the other. Turkish authorities may also declare holidays and state their time span. The nation's government exercised an instance of such power in the year 2016 when it declared a nine-day holiday for Eid al-Fitr which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Travel may at most times be affected during holidays due to the high number of vehicles that flock the roads as the celebration moods intensify. Other inconveniences may occur too, so it is recommended to check your schedules in advance to avoid getting disadvantaged.
