2026 Public Holidays Greece Service
The above is the list of 2026 public holidays declared in Greece which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Greece holiday calendar for 2026 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.
In the land of Greece, national holidays also referred to as mandatory holidays and are celebrated in the entire nation. Along with the designated National holidays, other diverse public holidays are memorialized in local communities or municipalities.
The Greek law mandates that every Sunday throughout the year is regarded as a public holiday. For living in a profoundly religious country, the Greek employees are permitted to observe numerous Catholic and Orthodox holidays. Some Greek municipalities generate what is referred to as "Name Day" or "Liberation Day". Such a day is in celebration of a region’s designated patron saint. The Greeks can observe many religious holidays, even though they are not on the record labeled as National holidays. Most employees are allowed time off for such observances.
Greece also permits for employees to get time off for celebrations of the changing times of the year including March Equinox, June Solstice, September Equinox, and December Solstice. Although not recognized by all employers, a majority of employees are given a request for leave with pay for these observances.
In line with Greece’s Minister of Employment, if a worker is deposed to work on a public holiday, including a Sunday, reimbursement is generally based on a fixed salary plus 75 percent. Executive and indispensable professional employees on an established payroll are characteristically exempted from overtime payment if they are required to be at work on Sunday or mandatory holidays. That is subject to statutes of the employment agreement and the discretion of the employer.
