The Republic of Cameroon is a nation located in Central Africa. They celebrate ten official public holidays in Cameroon. Public Holidays are ordinarily days in a year made into law by lawmakers of a country to be non-trading days or distinctive days during the year.
In Cameroon, public holidays in the country are regulated by the law and evaluated by the Prime Minister. The lawmakers may modify public holidays, and so may the Prime Minister, who is allowed to create new holidays, make a particular day into a national holiday for important events, and alter the dates of specific holidays to coincide with a workday should they fall on a weekend. The Office of the Prime Minister has the mandate to release a guide of all public holidays of a subsequent year, at the end of every year. Some holidays are variable, especially those based on region. Many religious special days are determined by the lunar cycle, as opposed to the calendar, and thus vary every year.
Section 115 of the Cameroon Labor Code stipulates that employers should give workers a paid day off on national or nationally recognized holidays if an employee is beyond their 90-day trial employment period. The law provides that the employer is to offer the employee either a different paid day off in a 90-day period, or add premium pay to their regular payment on that day; should they have their personnel on those holidays due to the nature of their work. The choice of that is dependent on the employer.
