Under the Norway act Respecting Public Holidays and their Sanctity 1995, Norway government has created ten official public holidays. Under the law, all employees are entitled to a paid day off during the public holidays. Government offices and businesses remain closed during national holidays.

Norway is a Christian dominated society. However, the rest of the religions like Muslims are given a chance to hold their holidays. The most popular Muslim holiday is the Ramadan holy month. At the end of this sacred month, Muslims celebrate the Eid ul-Fitr as a way to mark the closing of the Ramadhan. The most popular celebrated national holiday day in Norway is the Constitutional Day. This day is marked with parades across the country. Children wear colorful costumes, and the adults also join in. Military shows, cultural dances and songs too mark the day. This holiday is a mark of the day Norway constitution was signed.
