2026 Public Holidays Brazil Service
The above is the list of 2026 public holidays declared in Brazil which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Brazil holiday calendar for 2026 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.
Brazil is the world fifth largest with a population of 208 million. It’s the sixth most populated country in the world and the largest country in South America. Public holidays in Brazil are established under the constitutional regulated the federal law. Public holidays in Brazil are under three categories, federal, statewide and municipal level. When these holidays fall on a weekend, they are postponed to Monday.
Each of the Brazilian states has their independent public holidays that are not necessarily observed in the entire country. For these holidays, employers can decide to either give a day off to employees or not. Nevertheless, Brazilian employees are entitled to 22 paid vacations each year by the law.
Some of the holidays observed in Brazil are quite interesting. For instance, election days which are always on 1st Sunday in October and last Sunday in October are also regarded as public holidays. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are also celebrated as half-day holidays. In 2006, the government of Brazil added three Olympic public holidays as a way to give employees extra day offs.
Carnival is the most popular event in Brazil. It is a six-day festival which marks the last chance to party before the period of fasting begins on Ash Wednesday.
During public holidays in Brazil, government offices, banks and schools are closed. Most retail stores, however, remain open. When traveling to Brazil, it’s good to know of the national holiday dates, because those days are quite busy since most people are usually traveling around the country.
