2022 Public Holidays Singapore Service
The above is the list of 2022 public holidays declared in Singapore which includes federal, regional government holidays and popular observances. We also provide Singapore holiday calendar for 2022 in Word, Excel, PDF and printable online formats.
Singapore enjoys a total of eleven public holidays each year declared in the schedule to the Holidays Act passed in 1966. The president of Singapore has also been granted constitutional powers to declare any day as a public holiday. He/she can also substitute days specified as public holidays for other preferred dates. The Act further allows the president to declare an additional day as a holiday on the occasion where within that particular year, two public holidays fall on the same day. Each dominant religion and local race has two holidays separately in addition to the secular holidays observed.
Additionally, for learners in both primary and secondary schools, whenever a public holiday falls on a Saturday, the following Monday is automatically declared as a school holiday for the students. This wouldn't be the case if that particular Monday were a public holiday itself. By default, any polling day for general or presidential elections is outrightly a public holiday.
In case a public holiday falls on a Saturday, all employees are duly entitled to one day off work. If an employee for various reasons is required to work, the employer is obliged to give an extra day's pay calculated from the basic wage rates in addition to the gross rate of pay for that holiday. By agreement and as a matter of preference, an employer and an employee may interchange marking of a public holiday for another working day. For employees of companies which do not engage on Saturdays, the next workday (Monday), will be an off day. The Employment Act protects all these provisions.
