Colorado, the state on the western side of the US, was explored by the Spanish back in the 14th century. The country is highly populated, and due to its wealth, it is ranked 8th in household income. Colorado's economy is mainly boosted by mining, tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing plants. Colorado is a beauty to behold and notable for alpine mountains, desert sand dunes, and deep canyons. Colorado has also been home to many prominent business leaders, athletes, musicians, and other notable people in different fields. One such person is Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who dedicated her life to mission work and stabling schools, hospitals, and churches in the United States.

What is Cabrini Day

Cabrini Day is named after Frances Xavier Cabrini M.sc, sometimes called Mother Cabrini. She was an Italian-American catholic nun born in 1850. Mother Cabrini started the first orphanage in Denver and also founded a catholic religious institute supporting Italian immigrants. Sadly, she died in 1917 at Columbus hospital in Chicago. In 1946, he was canonized by Pope Pius XII and thus became the first American to become a saint. Mother Cabrini is remembered for starting schools, hospitals, and many orphanages in the US. In 2017, Governor John Hickenlooper set a date in December that honored Mother Cabrini on the 100th anniversary of her death. In March 2020, governor Jared Polis of Colorado signed into law the bill that replaced Columbus Day with Cabrini Day.

When is Cabrini Day?

Cabrini Day is observed on the first Monday of October. Considering that Cabrini Day is a new holiday, it will be observed for the first time on October 5, 2020.

Is Cabrini Day a public holiday?

Cabrini is a public holiday in Colorado. In 2020, Cabrini Day will be marked as the first paid state holiday that recognizes a woman.

What is open or closed on Cabrini Day?

Cabrini Day is a state holiday and, therefore, a day off to the general population. Government offices, schools, most organizations, and businesses remain closed for the day. The public transit may also be affected, and it would be vital to check on the timetables if you plan to travel.

Things to do on Cabrini Day?

Cabrini Day is a time to celebrate women. Although there have been other holidays to recognize women, Cabrini Day is the first paid state holiday to honor a woman. For this reason, take the opportunity to celebrate the women in your life. They could be your sisters, mother, relatives, and even colleague. Present them with gifts as a way of appreciating the role they play in your life.

You could also visit some of the schools, orphanages, and hospitals that were started by Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini. Some of these institutions have since been changed into shrines, missions, and camp centers. However, you could still visit those in existence and offer your donations where needed.

In some areas, there are likely to be services in the Roman Catholic churches to honor Saint Cabrini. Attending the service would be an honor and a chance to receive blessings.

St. Frances Xavier Cabrini was an Italian immigrant, and you can, therefore, mark this day celebrating the Italian culture. There are likely to be street fairs and people wearing colorful costumes and dancing to Italian music. Most restaurants would also be running great offers of Italian foods such as Pizza, Bolognese, and lasagna. If you don't fancy restaurants' food, you can prepare them in the comfort of your home and invite friends to enjoy together.
